About Green Energy Options
Home Performance Contracting – Gainesville
Our Mission at Green Energy Options is to help you create the healthy, comfortable, and energy efficient home you desire. We provide Energy Audit and Home Performance Contracting Services for Gainesville, Alachua, High Springs, Micanopy, Ocala, Jacksonville, and Tampa, Florida.
As a home performance contractor, we are different than your average contractor that may come into your home and focus on just one issue such as window replacement, or new insulation because that is what the contractor sells. At GEO we are not trying to sell a product, we are trying to find solutions to your concerns. We look at the house as a whole system and understand the many interrelated factors that affect the buildings comfort, health and efficiency. We use advanced diagnostic equipment before and after work is done to make sure the desired result is achieved and that safety is maintained.
Scientific expertise with practical experience
Kevin Veach, the owner of Green Energy Options, and a 16-year resident of Gainesville, has been active in the energy efficiency movement since the 1980s. He received the Minnesota Residential Conservation Service certification in 1981 and performed home energy audits in Minneapolis for a low-income weatherization program. In addition, he founded Home Weatherization Services, focusing on remedying infiltration problems in existing homes.
The following professional experiences all contribute to his scientific, and practical knowledge of building science, weatherization technique, environmental quality testing, and energy analysis:- B.S. Environmental Engineering, University of Minn.
- Hazardous Waste Project Engineer, Minn. Pollution Control Agency
- Energy Auditor, Community Weatherization Coalition, Gainesville, FL
- 10 years experience in residential remodeling
- Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified Building Analyst
- Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified Building Envelope Professional
- RESNET and Florida-certified Class 1 Energy Rater
- National Balancing Institute (NBI) – certified HVAC air balancing and diagnostic technician
- National Comfort Institute (NCI) – certified carbon monoxide and combustion analyst
As a certified Building Analyst and Energy Rater, Kevin applies building science principles to home energy diagnostics and solutions on every GEO job. The principles of building structure, heat, air and moisture flow, thermal and air boundaries, and combustion safety are all used to understand the house as a system. This means that insulation is not regarded as a component or energy upgrade by itself, but only in conjunction with air sealing and moisture control considerations. Air sealing is not regarded as just an energy measure but as it also affects indoor air quality and combustion safety. Anything less than this integrated approach means any upgrade measures taken may be less effective or negatively affect the comfort or health of your family.
Walking the walk
As a local homeowner, Kevin has put these principles into practice on his own house. He has taken a ‘60s vintage block home and rehabilitated it from a leaky, mildew-plagued energy hog to Energy Star standards for air tightness and over 40% energy savings. He carries his commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction into every new job.
